There are so many lash artists who use the same lash mapping for every client, just because they are familiar with a certain style. However, as a lash artist, it is essential that youย take lash extension stylesย seriously, to offer your clients the very best sets that will complement their eyes. The perfect lashes can change someoneโs entire look (especially with very full and dark volume lash extensions!)
We recommend that you set aside at least 5-10 minutes at the start of each session, toย thoroughly examine your clientโs eyes and natural lashes. This is especially for new clients. Remember, each individualโs eye shape is different, which is one of the biggest factors to determine which style would suit them the best.
In this article, we will be looking at the three most popular lash extension styles. Whether you want to createย classic lashesย or fullย volume lashesย (handmade or usingย Promade Fans), these mappings will come in handy!
Types of Eyelash Extension Styles:
1. Cat eyelash extensions
2. Doll eyelash extensions
3. Kitten eyelash extensions
1. Cat eyelash extensions
The cat eye style isย great for round and close-set eyes, as it really elongates the width of the eyes, and creates an exotic and sexy cat-like appearance. It is generallyย not recommended for downturned or wide-set eyes.
Pro tip: For a proper cat eye style, you will need to useย at least five different lengths, which will increase gradually along the clientโs lash line. For example, you might start with the shortest length (like 8mm) in the inner corner, then gradually increase to longer lengths (9mm, 10mm, 11mm, 12mm, and 13mm) as you progress along the lash line. You might then finish with a very short length at the end, to prevent the eyes from looking droopy.
2. Doll eyelash extensions
The doll eye style makes the eyes look bigger and more open, this style isย recommended for those with small, downturned, wide set, monolid, and deep-set eyes.ย However,ย it should be avoided for round, protruding, and close-set eyes, as it can make the eyes look even rounder and more prominent.ย
Pro tip: To create a doll eye, place shorter lashes on the inner and outer corners, and the longest ones in the middle where the pupil is. However, donโt opt for lashes that are too long, as when they are placed in the middle of the eye, they can feel much longer than if they were placed on the outer corner. For this reason, we donโt recommend using lashes longer than 12mm or 13mm for the doll eye style.
3. Kitten eyelash extensions
The kitten eye (also known as the squirrel or fox eye) style is definitely the biggest go-to style. If youโre ever in doubt about which style to choose, always choose a kitten eye, asย it is amazing for most eyes (including downturned and close set eyes, and clients with high brow arches). It follows the natural eye shape, and creates such a beautiful look with the slightly longer length. One of the biggest advantages of this style is that it wonโt make the eyes look droopy (like a cat eye does for certain eye shapes), nor will it make the eyes look too round (like the doll eye can).
Pro tip: To create a kitten eye, start with the shortest length on the inner corner, and place the longest lashes where the arch of the eyebrow and the outer pupil meet. Then, taper down at the outer corner to the shortest lashes.
Perfect for:
- Downturned eyes
- Close set eyes
- High brow arch
So there it is!
Remember, your main goal is to enhance the natural beauty of your client’s eyes and lashes. Practice makes perfect! Hope this guide helps ๐๐x
